KGB Vulnerability Advisory 20060917-1 Title: South Beach Diet/secure.agoramedia.com Lack of Encryption of Non-Public Information Date: 17 September 2006 Author: Particle Bored Vulnerability Class: Information Disclosure Affected Systems: http://www.southbeachdiet.com http://secure.agoramedia.com Overview: When registering on http://www.southbeachdiet.com nonpublic information is sent over public networks unencrypted. Such information includes names, addresses, and credit card information. Technical Details: http://secure.agoramedia.com/sbd2/regstep2_sbd.asp performs a HTTP POST to http://secure.agoramedia.com/saveregstep2.asp and transmits aforementioned data in clear text. The same thing occurs when http://secure.agoramedia.com/sbd2/ regstep2_sbd_diagnostic.asp POSTs to http://secure.agoramedia.com/sbd2/ regstep2_sbd_results.asp. Impact: System Administrators and others with access to communications destined for the site can intercept enough information to enable them to process fraudulent credit card transactions. Such interception of data could easily be done in a manner that is not detectable. Recommendations: Utilize SSL, TLS or other globally recognized methods to encrypt transmission of non-public information.
